ASTM A213 is a standard issued by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) to regulate the manufacturing and inspection requirements of heating surface tubes, headers and steam pipes of low and medium pressure boilers (working pressure is generally not more than 5.88MPa, working temperature is below 450 degree ). This standard includes some steel grades, such as TP304H, TP309H, TP309HCb, TP310H, TP310HCb, TP310IICbN, TP316H, TP321H, TP347H, TP347HFG (fine grain) and TP348H, which are specially improved for use at high temperatures.
In addition, ASTM A213 also specifies the size and thickness range of the tube and the mechanical properties requirements. This standard applies to tubes used in heating surface tubes, headers and steam pipes of low and medium pressure boilers.
Grades containing the letter H in the designation have requirements different from similar grades not containing the letter H. These different requirements provide creep-rupture strengths greater than those normally achievable with similar grades not containing these different requirements.
The sizes and thicknesses of pipe normally furnished to this specification are 1/8 inch [3.2 mm] inside diameter to 5 inches [127 mm] outside diameter with minimum wall thicknesses of 0.015 to 0.500 inches [0.4 to 12.7 mm] inclusive, or, if specified on the order, average wall thickness. Pipe having other diameters may be furnished provided such pipe conforms to all other requirements of this specification.
Specification A1016/A1016M, including any supplementary requirements noted in the purchase order. Failure to comply with the general requirements of Specification A1016/A1016M shall constitute nonconformance with this specification. In the event of a conflict between the requirements of this specification and Specification A1016/
A1016M, this specification shall prevail.
manufacture and condition- Tubes shall be fabricated by the seamless process and shall be hot worked or cold worked as specified. Grade TP347HFG shall be cold worked.
Ferritic Alloys and Ferritic Stainless Steels - Ferritic alloys and ferritic stainless steels shall be heat treated upon reheating as required. Heat treatment shall be performed separately and in conjunction with hot forming heating.
AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL - All austenitic tubes shall be furnished in the heat treated condition and shall be heat treated upon request. Alternatively, the tube may be quenched in water alone or rapidly cooled by other means (direct quenching) immediately after hot forming, when the temperature of the tube does not fall below the specified minimum solution treatment temperature.
